Download “Avast” – it’s great and it’s free. Always rates in the top three – usually at #1.

Avast, Avira and AVG are the best. They are all updated frequently and will cost you zero dollars.

I think I recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus!!
ESET NOD32 Antivirus Version is a highly effective security solution designed to protect computers from a wide range of malware and other threats. Using advanced ThreatSense® technology, ESET NOD32 Antivirus detects future threats proactively, minimizing the window of vulnerability left open by traditional signature-based detection. Its low resource utilization and small footprint make it very efficient, even on older hardware, yet it supports the latest operating systems and 64-bit processors. ESET NOD32 Antivirus detects and disables viruses (Include unknow virus), trojans, worms, spyware, adware, phishing attacks, rootkits and other Internet threats that may pose a security or financial threat to businesses. Its comprehensive and proactive protection is unrivaled, yet it also has a very small system footprint — improving performance and conserving bandwidth.

AVG is probably the best but the free version is pretty crap. you will have to illegally get it to get proper protection

If you don’t mind paying then NOD32 is about the best at the minute
Kaspersky is rated high too but they recently had a problem that left users unprotected while it updated. This has now been resolved but has made me wonder about them.
Out of the free ones I’d recommend Avast Home Edition
Others will probably suggest AVG or Avira but I think Avast comes out on top and has less false positives than the other too.
Try one and if you’re not happy with it uninstall and try another.
Remember that you can only have one running at at time.
Hope this helps.
